You know that annoying nagging in your head telling you it's time to go to bed, but you hate all the steps required to actually get ready for bed? This will be your new lifesaver!
Getting ready for bed is just plain annoying! We love our cozy beds and we love sleep, but the process of getting there (without feeling gross later) is a real drag. Remove your makeup, wash your face, brush your teeth, floss, get in pajamas, etc. We know those are all important things, but they're a pain in the neck, especially when you've already waited until the last second and you're exhausted.
I owe this idea to Gretchen Rubin, but it is genius. Get ready for bed BEFORE bedtime.
Seems ridiculously simple, but most of us don't do this, and I'm willing to bet most of us end up skipping important personal care habits regularly because we're practically falling into our beds at night.
“Seems ridiculously simple, but most of us don't do this, and I'm willing to bed most of us end up skipping important personal care habits regularly because we're practically falling into our beds at night.”
I decided to give Gretchen's advice a try, and I've been attempting to get ready for bed early on in the evening, and it feels incredible to be able to conveniently cozy into bed once I feel tired.
Try this tonight, and see how it goes! I think you're going to LOVE it!
SIMPLE STEPS TO MAKE GOING TO BED EASY:
1. About 1-2 hours before you know you'll probably feel ready for bed, head to your bathroom. Set an alarm to remind you, if that helps.
2. Remove your makeup and wash your face. Hop in the shower to soap your body if that feels great to you. You can wash your face in there, and maybe even exfoliate!
Been wanting to do regular face masks? You'll actually get to now!
3. Floss your teeth. Even if you're not done eating. Doesn't matter. Get over the idea that flossing has to be done at the end of the day. If you ARE done eating (or *should* be done eating) go ahead and brush your teeth as well!
4. Get into your pajamas. Or favorite sweats.
Now you're set! And when you decide you're ready to crawl into bed you actually *CAN* crawl into bed! And, bonus, you probably took much better care of yourself than you usually do when you wait until bedtime to get ready for bedtime.
Do you have other items in your bedtime routine that I didn't list? I'd love to know what they are! I'm always looking to improve my own personal routines!
